Im Juli 2009 veröffentlichte Melanie Fiona ihr Debütalbum „The Bridge“. Die dazugehörige Single „Give It To Me Right“ erschien im Frühjahr 2009 in Kanada und erreichte Platz 20 der dortigen Charts. Nun kommt die kanadische R&B Sängerin auch nach Deutschland!
Melanie Fiona ist die Tochter von Einwanderern aus Guyana (Südafrika). Geboren wurde sie in Toronto. Ihr Vater ist Gitarrist in einer Band und nahm sie schon früh mit auf die Bühne. Auch ihre Mutter ist sehr musikalisch. Kein Wunder also, dass Melanie Fiona Sängerin wurde. 2008 tourte sie mit Kayne West und 2009 kam dann das Debütalbum „The Bridge“.
Der Song „Give It To Me Right“ basiert auf dem Gitarrenriff des 1968 veröffentlichten Song der Zombies – “Time Of The Season”. Der Erfolg der Zombies hielt sich damals in Grenzen, bis auf wenige Hits wie: „Time Of The Season“ und „She’s Not There“. 1969 – nach der Trennung der Zombies – brachte eine amerikanische Plattenfirma den Song noch einmal raus und prompt wurde er zu einem absoluten Hit! Mit „Time Of The Season“ warb man schon für Tampons, Autos und Limonade! Nun verarbeitet also Melanie Fiona den Klassiker zu etwas völlig Neuem.
